Reply #3: March 14, 2015, 19:48:50. There are several ways to detect ongoing DPF regen: - Increased fuel consumption shown in the gauge. - Fuel consumption does not drop to zero during engine braking. You may need to set the instant consumption to be shown in L/100 km instead of MPG to see it.

As far as I can tell when regenerating the dpf there is a smell like burning rubber from the rear driver's side of the car and the engine/exhaust note sounds deeper, also fuel economy drops by about 3-5 mpg temporarily. I haven't noticed any loss of power though.
